Organizational History/Mission
VADCO/Valerie Alpert Dance Company has touched thousands of people across the nation with its powerful and innovative dance works. Originally founded in 1994, in Fort Worth, Texas, by Chicago-born choreographer Valerie Alpert, the company moved back to Chicago in 1998. After incorporating in 2000, the company of seven continues to present audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds with various exciting presentations of contemporary dance that challenges the imagination. Furthermore, the company is dedicated to the continued effort of furthering excellence in dance in the state of Illinois, as well as nationally and internationally.
The Chicago-based Company is unique in that it presents a variety of cultural programming with new works that integrate multimedia technology, such as computer morphing images and video projection, into live performances. Artistic Director, Valerie Alpert, has been producing these professional choreographic works throughout the United States and Europe. She is committed to the continued effort of advancing the arts through her innovative choreography and her collaboration with other artists, including composers, artists, and animators. During the past 13 years, Valerie Alpert has created over a hundred choreographic works of art. Her work continues to gain accolades by the press, other artists, and most importantly by the community of audience members who come to see VADCO. This was most evident in the nearly sold out show of Big Band Dance Revue.
Over the years, VADCO has drawn praise in cities around the U.S. including Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Illinois and Arizona. The company continues to gain visibility in the Chicago and surrounding areas.
