REPERTORY
VADCO's repertoire has always been driven by reflections of life and various cultures. The company has presented works inspired by themes such as women's issues and gender roles, as well as cultural dances including Latin, African, and Native American Cultures. This reflects Valerie Alpert's interests in who people are and how they live. She is engaged in events in her community as well as in the world community.
It is important that the company's repertoire be as diverse as the community that it serves. The desire to create cross-cultural works that challenge tradition but that is respectful of the original tradition is the company's trademark. Another goal set forth for the company is the constant exploration of new movement vocabulary along with integrating movement with various digital technologies. Valerie Alpert has combined various styles of dance found outside her own traditional training and has developed new movements and new forms. Alpert has created several multimedia works that have used computer morphing programs, videodance, and animation integrated into the company's performance.
I am driven to develop works, not only to challenge my audience, but to challenge me as an artist as well.
